ecstasis
Created in 2021 and sharing its namesake with the collection, 'Ecsta5is' stands as the inaugural piece in the series. Evocative of Bernini’s ‘The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa’ the figure takes the form of a woman in divine union. Her face is adorned with an animating gold pattern that slowly consumes her and recedes. Believed to be the locus of spiritual perception, dancing rays of light emanate from her third eye. This piece is free of further distortion and serves as the origin point for the others in the series.
The soundscape was composed by Michael Peter Olsen (b. 1974), a Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist, producer, engineer, composer and arranger currently based in Toronto, Ontario. Olsen is best known for his cello performances and has collaborated with artists such as Arcade Fire, Drake and K-OS.
