Displacement
Displacement maps are textures or images used to deform the surface of another object in digital art. They guide the software in pushing and pulling parts of the artwork, creating a three-dimensional effect. For example, I might use a greyscale image as a displacement map in 3d software to simulate mountains and valleys on a flat surface, where different shades of grey represent different elevations.
Turbulent Displacement
Turbulent displacement adds randomness and unpredictability to deformations. I introduce irregular variations in my digital practice using noise patterns or fractals to create natural ripples and waves on a calm water surface. Turbulent displacement can generate chaotic deformations, providing a more organic and dynamic appearance.
